Joan J (Verdekal) Bachman

Joan J. Bachman, 93, of Catawissa, a loving wife, mother, and friend, went to be with the Lord Thursday November 23, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. 

She was born January 7, 1930, in Nanticoke, daughter of the late Evelyn Haupt. She married Roddy Bachman, the love of her life, on April 30, 1949. At the time of his passing in 2007, they were married 58 years. 

She co-owned, with her husband, Bachman Plumbing, Heating, Hardware; that served the Catawissa area for many years. Joan was a member of the Catawissa First United Methodist Church. She was a kind, giving, and supportive person. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and of course her four-legged companions.

Joan was a fan of Flyers Hockey, PSU and Pittsburgh Steelers Football, and Duke Basketball.

Additionally, Joan was preceded in death by her brother Charles “Speed” Verdekal, and nephews Chucky and Billy Verdekal.

Joan is survived by her children Roddy Bachman, wife Monique of Virginia, Jody Bachman and Cindy Bachman, both of Catawissa, granddaughter Sandy Lamanna, husband Jesse of Virginia, niece JoAnn Zarambo, husband Bob and their children and grandchildren. 

A special thanks to Kat her previous caregiver and friend, and Lona her morning workout buddy.

Services will be Tuesday November 28, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with Pastor Mike Spagnuolo officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service.
