Richard E. DeWald

Richard E. DeWald, 86, of Catawissa, passed away on Tuesday, October 24.2023  He was born January 12, 1937 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Roy and Fannie Irene  (Hilliard) DeWald.

He graduated from Bloomsburg High School and joined the United States Navy serving from 1954 until being honorably discharged in 1957. He also was a flight instructor at Hershey Airport in the early seventies.Richard had his commercial pilot's license.He was one of the original members of the Parlor City Flying Club at the Bloomsburg Airport. He worked for Geisinger Medical Center in the clinical engineering department. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy.

Richard is survived by his wife, the former Emily Feese, who he married on July 16, 1971, three children; Susan DeWald, unknown, John DeWald and wife Lynn of Berwick, Bonnie Sutton husband of Jeff of Catawissa, four grandchildren: Austin, Keira, Seth and Camerson. There are also nieces and nephews plus a sister-in-law, Lillian Feese.Richard was preceded in death by his parents as well as two brothers, Donald and Robert DeWald.and a sister, Doris Moyer

The family wants to thank their neighbors for helping their parents plus the Geisinger at Home nurses and also the Hospice Group from Mt.Carmel.A celebration of life will be held Friday, November 10, 2023 at 2:00 pmat the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 193 McIntyre Rd., Catawissa with Pastor Gordon Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of the funeral which is at 2:00 pm.
