John M. "Skeeter" Thomas

John M. “Skeeter” Thomas, 85, of Elysburg died Thursday September 13, 2018 at Nottingham Village, Northumberland. John was born March 18, 1933, in Cleveland Township, Columbia County, a son of the late Roy C. and Harriet M. (Miller) Thomas. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Gladys George; brothers, Robert Yost, and Paul E. Thomas.

John attended Reed’s one-room school. After working various places in his early life, he worked for Kenneth Crowl Inc., Elysburg, for over 40 years as a masonary laborer/lift operator. John served with the National Guard out of Danville. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Catawissa.

He was a NASCAR fan and his other hobbies included deer hunting; raccoon hunting; and raising honey bees. His favorite enjoyment was escorting veterans in parades in his antique car.

John is survived by his wife the former Janet (Rishel) Thomas. They were married June 22, 1963. Also surviving is a son, John M. Thomas, Jr. and his wife Melody of Danville; grandson, John Cameron Thomas; grandson, Parker Owen Thomas; step-granddaughter , Lillian Mapes; step-grandson Dyllon Shay; and brother David Thomas and his wife Alice of Catawissa.

At the request of the decedent there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10:00 am at Bethel United Methodist Church, Bethel Road, Catawissa with Pastor Paul Kreisher officiating. Burial will follow at Follmer Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, 353 Grange Hall Road, Milton.
