Leo J. Mirolli Sr., 73, of Shamokin passed away surrounded by family Wednesday November 13, 2019 at Mountain View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township. He was born May 8, 1946 in Shamokin, a son of the late Leo J. and Lorraine (Yucha) Mirolli.
Leo graduated from Kulpmont High School and played football at the nose guard position. After high school he enlisted into the US Air Force on June 10, 1964 and was stationed at Eskisehir Air Base in Turkey with TUSLOG Detachment 100 as an air policeman. During his service Leo earned a small arms expert marksmanship ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on June 14, 1968 from McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey at the rank of Sergeant
On June 5th 1970 Justice of the Peace, John J Bartko of Coal Township married Leo and Mary Rebecca James. Despite divorcing years later the two remained friends and always looked out for one another, Leo continued to love Mary until his last breath. Leo owned and operated his own construction business, Mirolli Home Improvement, for many years in Marion Heights. Leo then worked as a manager at the Shamokin, Millersburg and finally at the Berwick Ames Department stores for over 20 years where he retired when the company went out of business. Leo grew up and remained in Marion Heights until 1986. He then moved to Trevorton Road where he resided for over 20 years. He also lived on Old Trail Road, Shamokin Dam for approximately five years until his health declined. He was an avid hunter and also enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Flyers, Sixers, Phillies, and Eagles. He loved to attend games with his children and grandchildren.
Leo is survived by his ex wife, Mary James, three sons; Leo J. Mirolli Jr. and wife Kelly of Coal Township, James J. Mirolli wife Erin of Grand Blanc, MI, Kyle J. Mirolli of Shamokin, five grandchildren; Leo J. III., Logan, Leah, Luke, Anthony J. Mirolli, and great-grandson Asher Michael Legend Mirolli. As well as his sister Sandra Palembas of Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 20th at 11am at Our Lady of Hope Church, 832 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township with Reverend Steven Frenier OFM Conv officiating. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Marion Heights with military honors. Family will receive friends for visitation from 10 am until time of service at the church.
