Alice R. Thomas, 90, of Catawissa passed away on Monday April 10, 2023, under the loving care of the nursing staff and hospice care at Sunset Ridge Healthcare and Rehab Center. To join her Lord and Savior and her husband David of 68 years.
Born on December 5, 1932, Alice was the daughter of the late Harlen E. and C. Viola Horne, the 6th child of 9. She resided all of her life in the Elysburg/Catawissa area. After raising her family, Alice and David returned to live in the first home they purchased.
She attended the Reed One Room School completing her eight years of education in 7.5 years. She began her career working at Knoebels Park selling tickets and worked in the Alamo Restaurant as a waitress and cook. Alice was employed at the former Regal Shirt Factory and Southern Columbia High School as a cook, ending her career as Head Cook in 1994.
Alice was a member of Independent Christian Fellowship Church, the former Bethel UMC Catawissa where she was an active member, involved in many aspects of the church. Besides attending church events, weekly services, and Bible Study, she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, watching game shows, and cooking meals for anyone that might be there at meal time.
Alice was preceded in death by her brothers; Walter, Raymond, Lloyd and Edgar Horne, and sister Margaret Shaffer.
Surviving are two daughters Ann (Albert) DiOrio and Kay (Bill) Sevison, granddaughter Kristen (Kevin) Sheib, grandsons Shawn (Anne) Sevison, Brian Sevison, step grandsons; Bill (Amanda) Sevison, Dan Sevison, step-great-grandchildren; Tyler, Scarlett, and Leah Sevison. As well as brothers Doyle, Dan, and Roger Horne, and sister-in-laws Ethel Horne and Janet Thomas.
Services will be Sunday April 16, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Independent Christian Fellowship Church, 168 Bethel Road, Catawissa with Pastor Steve Styer officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family the Bethel Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 pm until time of service.
