Bethana Jane (Rider) Helwig

Bethana Jane Helwig, 90, passed away Friday February 24, 2017 at the Gardens of Orangeville, where she was a resident for the past two years.

Born July 31, 1926 in Catawissa Township, she was the daughter of the late Newton A. and Bessie (Kreischer) Rider.

She worked for two years in her youth at Magee Carpet Co. and later for 26 years at Feese’s Royal Swan Store in Slabtown. Beth was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Millgrove, Chapter 265 of Catawissa Eastern Star, and later a life member of Bloomsburg Chapter 279 Order of the Eastern Star. Her favorite past times were baking, canning and freezing fresh vegetables and fruits in season and crocheting, snowflakes, angels and garland during the winter.

Survivors include two daughters: Janice E. Butler and husband David of Parker, CO, and Elizabeth Jane LeVan and husband Steven of Alexandria, PA; two sons: Clifford P. Helwig and companion Sandy Buck of Bloomsburg, and David L. Helwig and wife Ruth Ann of Sinking Spring, PA; one granddaughter, Angela Helwig, brother Chester Rider, and sister Audrey Minnick.

Beth was preceded in death by her husband Paul L. Helwig ending a marriage of 52 years; sisters Marjorie Creasy Dunning and Althea Myers; brothers Allen Rider and Donald Rider, and grandson Mark Helwig.

There will be a private graveside service for the immediate family on Tuesday February 28, 2017 held at Grace UCC Cemetery with Pastor David Adams officiating. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
