Carolyn Jo Baillie, 82, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Danville. She was born at Chicago on New Year’s Eve 1940 to Glen Lyman and Luella (Wald) Blackman and grew up in that city, graduating from Steinmetz High School. She was a science graduate of Asbury University in Wilmore, KY and later completed a business major at Bloomsburg University. She had a varied career, working as an eye-research lab technician, bookkeeper, and financial secretary. She was a devoted and talented mother and a dedicated church worker.
Carolyn was an elder and deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Bloomsburg. She was a sister in P.E.O. chapter CI and a life member of Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society. Her interests included travel (in 48 states and over 20 foreign countries), archeological excavation in the Holy Land, chorusing, and needlework.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William Baillie of Danville, sister Jessie Greenman of Austin, TX, daughter Joanne Baillie of Baltimore, and three grandchildren: Katie Egan of Hershey, PA and Will and Sarah Egan of Baltimore. Her son, Robert W. Baillie, died in 2016.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church, 345 Market Street, Bloomsburg. Memorial gifts may be sent to Presbyterian Women’s Memorial Fund at the church.
