It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of E. Edwin Hoffman on Sunday March 23, 2025, at 93 years of age, with his loving wife Peggy by his side.
Born in Bloomsburg, PA, Edwin was the eldest child of Earl E. and Evelyn (Rarig) Hoffman. Edwin grew up on his parents’ turkey farm and graduated from Locust Township High School class of 1950, where he became a star athlete excelling in soccer, baseball, and competing on the championship basketball team.
Edwin enjoyed going to Knoebels skating rink where he met and ultimately married the love of his life Peggy Lou Baskin in 1953. Together they built a loving home which they shared for 71 years of marriage, creating a legacy of love, respect, and devotion.
Edwin was an excellent carpenter building bridges on Interstate 80. He was employed by Allen Campbell Construction and Bruce Yeager Construction, prior to starting his own company which became Hoffman Builders, where he built new homes and did remodeling.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying his yearly trips to Crotch Lake, and was President of Dry Hollow Gun Club for many years. Edwin loved farming, spending many hours working beside and later watching his son Scott on the farm.
He served on the Board of Directors of Locust Mutual Fire Insurance Company. He was a member of Grace UCC Church, Millgrove where he served in many different compacities for many years.
Edwin is survived by his loving wife, Peggy. His children, Debbie (Ron) of Lancaster, PA, Randy of Boston, MA, and E. Scott (Sheri) of Catawissa, PA. His grandchildren, Nicolas (Christina), Alexis (Ryan), Patrick (Alizee), Matthew (Kelly), Nicole (Garrett), five great-grandchildren, Georgina, Patrick, and Everett Accomando, Kai Minihan, and Mayla Accomando. As well as his sister Linda Goldman (Michael) of Watsontown, PA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ruthie.
Edwin will be remembered for his hard work, honesty, and integrity with family, friends, and business associates.
We will miss his gentle demeanor, and his words that were few… but powerful!
The family wishes to thank Geisinger Hospice for their kindness, care, and support in Edwin’s last few months. His wish was to stay in his home and that he did, with the undying love of his wife, Peggy, and the true commitment of his Hospice team.
He will be missed and unlovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Services will be Friday March 28, 2025, at 11:00 am at Grace UCC, 1 Pension Street, Catawissa, PA, 17820 with Pastor David Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Grace UCC Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the church.
