Etta “Sis” Longenberger, 90, of Catawissa passed away Wednesday November 16, 2016 at her residence where she resided for the past five years. She previously lived on Poor House Road, Catawissa from 1950 till 2011.

She was born in Catawissa Township on January 6, 1926, the daughter of the late Grant and Nora (Adams) Hower.
In the early part of her life she was employed as a housekeeper. She then worked as a seamstress at Keck’s Drapery, various shirt and blouse factories in the area and Milco.
She was very well known for her baking and cooking. You never left her table without being well fed. Some of the memorable recipes that the family enjoyed, were her pies; lemon sponge, lemon meringue, chocolate with coconut topping and her graham cracker pies.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Roaring Creek Valley Grange. She accompanied her husband Roy on many trips including two to Alaska. They also visited Florida and traveled to Montana, Washington and Idaho to visit with cousins living there. They also attended many blue-grass festivals with their motor home.

Survivors include her three children: Marjorie L. Wegrzynowicz, Eugene D. Longenberger and wife Janice all of Bloomsburg, and Dale Longenberger and wife Jane of Catawissa. Grandchildren include: Tricia Litterer (George), Danville, Jason (Crystal) Wegrzynowicz, Elysburg, Lori Bomboy (Andy), Elizabethtown, Randy Longenberger and companion Christina Pentos, Fort Wayne, IN, Holly (Matt) Greenly, Millville, and Jeff (Lauren) Longenberger, Frederick, MD. Great grandchildren include William (Billy) Wegrzynowicz, Elysburg, Katherine (Katie) and Colin Bomboy, Elizabethtown and Arianna Longenberger, Miami, Fl. Also surviving is a brother Donald Hower (Verna Ann) Bloomsburg, sister Shirley Hartman, Angleton, Texas, sister-in-law Mabel Longenberger, Danville, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Those pre-deceasing her were her husband of 63 years, Roy E. Longenberger who passed away July 4, 2010, her brother Junior Hower and wife Mary, as well as her parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 23 Ringtown Mountain Rd; Numidia, Pennsylvania 17820 with the Rev. Gordon Smith, her pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Numidia. Family will receive friends Saturday at the church from 9:30 am until time of service.
