Evelyn Riegel Obituary

Evelyn Mae Riegel, age 97 passed peacefully on December 23, 2020.  Evelyn was a resident at Riverwoods Skilled Nursing Facility, in Lewisburg Pennsylvania, the past six months. She was born April 10, 1923, in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of Donald and Phoebe Kline. She graduated from the Old Scott Township School in 1941.  On June 10, 1956, she married her true love, Arthur Clair Riegel, they celebrated 54 years of marriage. Arthur and Evelyn had two daughters, Claire Elizabeth and Barbara Lynn. Her daughters fondly called her Mom, where her grandchildren and great grandchildren called her “Nana Banana”.  She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren fiercely, they were the light of her life. She found great joy in family gatherings, especially those where her talented son-in-law, Robert Brown, prepared the feast. She adored Christmas and its many traditions, music and holiday treats.

Evelyn was a member of the Catawissa First United Methodist Church and served as their organist for many decades. Her love of music was her true gift of ministry to the entire congregation. She was a member of the Eastern Star Organization, Catawissa Garden Club, and the Women’s Group at her dearly loved church. She also worked for Catawissa Lumber and Specialty Company as a secretary for many years, until retirement.

Most of her life was dedicated to the care of her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, baking and preserving summer fruits and vegetables. No one could make a better pie crust than she, they were always relished at holiday gatherings.

Evelyn was an avid sport enthusiast, even though she did not know all the rules. There were very few sporting events her children or grandchildren played, that she was not present to cheer them on. She also loved watching her great granddaughter, Abigail Elizabeth Lorson, play in the Little League Softball World Series and her great grandson, Garrett Frederick Lorson, play baseball, wrestling, and football in youth leagues.  She loved Southern Columbia Football and Penn State Football and rarely missed a televised Saturday football game.

She is survived by her two daughters, Claire Campbell and Barbara Brown, and Barbara’s husband Robert H. Brown. Her granddaughter, Kristen Lorson and husband Adam, and two great grandchildren, Abigail and Garrett Lorson. Her grandson Sean Campbell and wife Chandler, and great grandson, Holden Arthur Campbell.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death is her beloved husband, Arthur Clair Riegel.
