Florence “Flo” Irene (Shultz) Blass

Florence “Flo” Irene Blass 97, of Millville and formally of the Catawissa area, went to be with the Lord, Saturday June 11, 2022, at her residence, surrounded by her family.   

Flo was born on February 5, 1925 in Milton, PA, a daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel (Mincemoyer) Shultz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Blass; three children: Jo Ellen Blass, Steven Blass, and Terry Blass; and two siblings: Paul Shultz and Helen Schell.   

Flo attended Bloomsburg Public School, was a member of the Catawissa American Legion, and was past president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Flo was a life member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Flo is survived by four children: Pat Kipp, husband Gary of Danville, Gail Ziller, husband Ron of Bloomsburg, Debby Reifendifer, husband Tom of Millville (with whom she lived with), Jeff Blass, wife Becky of Catawissa, and her daughter-in-law Cheryl Blass of Elysburg. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, and fifteen great great grandchildren.  

Flo, also known as Mom, Grammy, Memaw, Memes, Flossy, Slim, Gas-ass-Flo (pedal to the metal), Flonase, and The Boss (at Blass Brothers Garage) loved all animals, especially her fur babies Lincoln, Orion, Remy, the others that came to visit often, and cuddling puppies at the Bloomsburg Fair Dog Show. Flo enjoyed giving rides on her walker to her great grandchildren and Jax “Fritz.”   

In addition to spending time with her family, some of Flo’s greatest pleasures were casinos, lottery tickets, traveling, reading Amish novels, going to family sporting events, playing cards, fixing puzzles, and spending hours watching the deer and turkeys milling around the property. She especially enjoyed the home cooked meals by her son-in-law Tommy, including Tuesday night cheeseburgers, Thursday night pizzas (definitely not Red Baron’s), and fresh butchered scrapple.  

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday June 15, 2022 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 23 Ringtown Mountain Rd. Catawissa Pa. 17820 at 3:00 pm with Berwick Hospice Chaplain Mike Delp officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until time of service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to EOS Therapeutic Riding Center, 288 Dahl Road, Bloomsburg, where Flo enjoyed spending time and riding horseback, as recently as May at 97 years old. EOS was her “Happy Place,” especially Fridays when the Veterans would fuss over her.
