Florey A Guarno

Florey A. Guarno, 88, Danville and formerly of Catawissa passed away on Thursday March 2, 2023, at Vintage Knolls, Danville. He was born August 14, 1934, in Kulpmont, Pa, a son of the late Florey and Mildred Warno (D’Alexander) Warno.

He went to St. Mary’s Elementary School in Kulpmont and graduated in 1952 from Kulpmont High School. While a youngster and still in school he worked in the family coal mine. From 1955 until 1958 he was employed by General Motors in Wilmington Delaware. He then moved jobs to be closer to home where he was employed from 1958 until 1974 at Magee Carpet in Bloomsburg and as a part-time city carrier and clerk for the Catawissa Post Office. In 1974 he became a full-time regular rural carrier on route #3. While working for the Post Office he was very active in the Rural Carrier Union.

Florey was on the Pennsylvania Rural Letter Carrier Association State Board in many positions for two years he was a committeeman, three years as Vice President, and three years as President. He attended many states and national conventions and always had a story to tell. He was on many committees while a member of the PARLCA union, where he remained a member, and a member of the Columbia-Montour Rural Letter Carrier Association. Florey was member of the year for the PARCLA membership in 1993. He was involved in the QWL-EI (Quality of Work Life Employee Involvement), and Assistant State Steward for the State of Pennsylvania. After retiring from the Post Office, he worked at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Catawissa.

Florey enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to golf and was a member of one of the National Conventions Golf Teams. He was an avid Roller Skater at Knoebels where in fact he met his wife, Eleanor who he married on May 10, 1958. He played baseball in Catawissa League and liked to bowl. Florey enjoyed traveling with his wife while she was attending to her many duties for her positions in the National Aux Board and traveled all over the county.

Florey is survived by three children; Ann Weigle husband Brad of Bloomsburg, Anthoney Guarno of Wormleysburg, PA, and Chris Cooke husband Mark of Shickshinny, two grandchildren; Jeffrey and Lauren, seven step-grandchildren; Steven, Brandon, Remington, Morgan, Lexi, Heather, Lindsey, and 15 great-grandchildren; Cole, Calleigh, Logan, Kensi, Carter, Bryson, Weston, Knox, Rhett, Ava, McKensie, Ella, Addison, Tre, and Conner. As well as brother Frank Warno and sisters Maria Ritzman and Phyllis Clark.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his wife the late Eleanor P. (Dupnock) Guarno, brother Joseph Warner, sisters Rose Pancerella, Catherine Kervitsky, Theresa Joyce, and nephew Joseph Pancerella.

Florey’s family would like to thank Residential Hospice at Vintage Knolls for the excellent care his last couple days.

Services will be Thursday March 9, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with Pastor Chris Dunlap officiating. Burial will follow at All Saint’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am until time of service.
