Frank Getty was a master farmer, a dedicated family man and a community servant.
He believed in hard work, clean living and Farmall tractors. God's beautiful countryside was his church. He had the gift of gab and more than his share of charm.
Frank fought death as fiercely as he confronted all life's challenges. But he surrendered July 16, 2019, just 11 days before his 92nd birthday, at Berwick Retirement Village I, where he had received care for a little over a year. He was surrounded by family at the end.
Frank served as a Franklin Township supervisor for 30 years, most of that time as chairman. During his tenure, he helped initiate zoning to protect the rural character of his lifelong home, south of Catawissa.
Frank was also a school director during the formation of the Southern Columbia Area district.
He was a proud member of Bloomsburg-area Masonic lodges for more than 50 years.
Frank farmed the family homestead into his 80s until his health began to fail. He took over from parents Ralph and Margaret Bucher Getty.
In addition to his folks, he mourned dear wife of 68 years, Jean Dreisbach Getty, sons Thomas and Douglas, grandson Eric Clark Rhoads, and elder sister Mary.
He leaves behind daughters Lynne Rhoads and Lori Getty, both of rural Catawissa, sister Darla Martin of Millville, brother Glenn of Australia, nephews Todd Getty and John, Daniel and David Martin, plus longtime employee, friend and borrowed son Dennis Crawford.
Frank will be laid to rest after a service at noon Tuesday, July 23, at Roaring Creek Valley United Methodist Church. The Rev. Adam Miller will officiate. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon at the church before the service.
