Fred E. Shaffer, 83, of Catawissa passed away Sunday October 11, 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center. He was born November 23, 1931 in Beaver Township, a son of the late David and Florence (Crissman) Shaffer.
He graduated from Bloomsburg High School and then entered the Army and served during World War II. Fred was a life member of the Bloomsburg Fire Co. and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, farming, and spending time with his family. Fred could fix anything that you put in front of him. He was a machinist for TRW for many years.
Fred is survived by his wife Pearl Bittner, whom he married December 18, 1955. As well as two sons David W. Shaffer and wife Coleen of Catawissa, James M. Foust and wife Denise Heller of Delaware, a granddaughter Rebekka J. Heller, and a sister Mary Swisher of Buckhorn.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents as well as three brothers; Frank, John, and Paul Shaffer.
Services will be Friday October 16, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with Pastor Chris Dunlap officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
