George Earl Miller, 79, of Numidia, passed away at home in the loving presence of his wife, Eleanor, his daughters Susan and Linda, and his best friends – sister and brother-in-law, “Cookie” and John Marks on Wednesday, March 11th.
The son of G. Clyde and Florence (Litwhiler) Miller, George was born October 25, 1935 on the family’s farm in Numidia. George attended Locust High School. He met his wife Eleanor A. Doraski, of Catawissa, at Springbrook Park roller skating rink. They married in 1957.
George’s first job was with M&E Manufacturing, a shirt factory. In 1962, he joined Adams Chevrolet in Paxinos, PA, as a car salesman where he began his life-long career that answered to his love of automobiles. Adams was later purchased by Boyer Chevrolet. George continued with Boyer Chevrolet where he was a well-respected salesman, and loved by his customers for his attention to the care of their cars. George then moved to Hawkins Chevrolet in Danville, PA, where George retired in 2005.
George restored old cars as one of his many passions, a 1954 Chevrolet being his most recent pride and joy. He loved the outdoors and to care for his home in Numidia, grooming the most beautiful and meticulous lawns. He loved gardening as well, with his gardens reaping beautiful vegetables that his wife, Eleanor, then canned and froze for enjoyment all year long. It was a team effort that continued until his recent illness. During his retirement, George took up wood –working and created an extensive wood shop in his garage, where he spent many hours. His projects were many, and turned out to be a hidden talent. Often, his daughters were the recipients of these projects, everything from beautiful Anarondak chairs to porch swings to houses for their pets. George also loved to attend the Southern Area football games to watch the generations of Marks’ family play football and baseball. George loved his jaunts with his wife, Eleanor, and Cookie and John, whether it be long drives around local states, to his daughter, Linda’s house in Mount Joy, PA or his daughter, Susan’s old log cabin west of Gettysburg. These were some of George’s favorite and happiest times.
George is survived by his wife, Eleanor A. Miller; his daughter Susan M. Miller and her husband Michael Steven Ruckert of Woodbine, Maryland; and Linda K. Miller and Cathy Cieslinski, of Mount Joy, PA. George is also survived by his brother, Carl Miller, and his sisters, June A. Miller, Peggy Tubberville, and Frances Kline.
George was a member of the Elysburg Masonic Lodge No. 349, the
Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436, and the Moose.
