Geraldine E. (Hashagen) Rhodes

Geraldine E. Rhodes, 98, passed away peacefully into the arms of our loving savior on July 18, 2022. Geraldine had been a resident at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village in Lewisburg, PA, since June of 2020, when she suffered a broken hip. Geraldine was born February 28, 1924 to the late Fred and Dora (Baker) Hashagen.

She married Charles E. Rhodes on November 9, 1943. Geraldine and Charles resided in Catawissa most of their lives where they were lifelong members of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. She and Charles attended and served the members and children at St. Matthews for many years.

Geraldine was employed by the Emenee Shirt Factory in Catawissa for many years as a trimmer. She was well known for her seamstress abilities and made wedding and attendant gowns for many area brides. Geraldine was an excellent cook and baker, and her family will lovingly attest to her culinary skills. Her greatest joy in life was sharing time with her husband and family. She will be remembered as being loving and generous to all her neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband Charles who passed away on February 4, 2007, brothers Fred and William Hashagen, and sister Mae Thomas.

She is survived by a son. Fred E. Rhodes and his wife Deb of Catawissa, daughter Deborah Snyder and her husband Terry of Catawissa, brother Robert Hashagen of Bloomsburg, and a sister Betty Stine of Catawissa. The greatest joys of her life were her beloved grandchildren, Mathieu Fetterman and wife Brenda of Catawissa, Michele John and husband Greg of Newtown, PA, great-grandchildren; Emma, Charlie, and Henry John, step grandchildren; Cristina Zechman husband Justin, Joshua Snyder, Heidi Michael husband Joshua, step great-grandchildren; Jacob Snyder, Raelyn Snyder, Colton Snyder, Adyline Michael, and Rudy Zechman.

Services will be Friday July 22, 2022 at 11:00 at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with Rev. Gordon Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
