Irene Marie Jessick M.D.

Irene Marie Jessick M.D., passed away Monday February 1, 2021. She was born September 1, 1933 at the family farm in Elysburg, PA, to the late Charles and Stella Jessick.

She graduated as Valedictorian of Ralpho Township High School in Elysburg, class of 1951. She then graduated with honors from Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA, class of 1955 and then from Women’s Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, class of 1959.

Following graduation, an internship and residence in internal medicine, Irene accepted a position as an Emergency Medicine physician at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and spent her entire career at Ford Hospital retiring as Medical Director of Personnel Health. Irene also held office and administrative positions in infection control and safety.

Following retirement, Irene became a snowbird for a while and then eventually decided to stay in sunny Florida where she enjoyed many happy years with family and some new friends she made. Irene loved her career as a Physician but her greatest joy came in spending time with family and would travel anywhere to share experiences with them. Her compassion and friendship will be greatly missed.

Irene spent the last several years at Vintage Knolls Danville, where she enjoyed many different activities and the loving care she received.

Irene is survived by her brother Charles Jessick, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as siblings’ Eleanor Jessick, Edward Jessick, Stella Magadanz, Joseph Jessick, Alice LaTulip, and Chester Jessick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday February 6, 2021 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 304 Slabtown Road, Catawissa with Father Dennis Dalessandro officiating. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 am until time of service.
