James A Roberts

James A. Roberts, 94, of Catawissa, went to be with the Lord, Thursday June 17, 2021, at his residence surrounded by the love of family.

 “Jim” was born May 4, 1927, in his Catawissa homestead, the son of the late James H. and Marqueen (Sterner) Roberts, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son James A. “Robbie” Roberts in 2016.

He was a graduate of Catawissa High School, and proudly served his country during World War ll as a Machinist Mate in the Navy. He was a member of the 20th Fighter Wing Association, a lifelong member of Catawissa American Legion Post 541 where he held many offices. He belonged to the Mainville Sportsman’s Club, Catawissa Fire Co., and Elysburg Masonic Lodge #349 F&AM. In his younger years, Jim was a talented baseball player, in his first year attending East Stroudsburg College he was offered an opportunity to play professionally for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was an avid Yankees fan. James worked for A.J. Balshi Feed Mill for many years, after A.J. Balshi death, Jim and his wife Jeanne continued to operate the Feed Mill for many years.

James is survived by his wife the former Jeanne Balshi whom he married in 1947, two sons: Jeffrey Roberts, Jay Atwood Roberts and his wife Olga all of Catawissa. Also, by four grandchildren; Chad, Wesley, Tiffany, Zachary Roberts, three great-grandchildren Victoria, Dylan, and James Jasper, and a brother Thomas Roberts all of Catawissa. He was an uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be July 1, 2021, at 11:00 am, from the Christ United Evangelical Lutheran Church at 216 Church Street Catawissa Pa. 17820, with Rev, Karen Minnick Sadler officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, where full military Honors will be held by VFW #8307.
