Janet Nesbitt, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away Friday November 18, 2016 after a two-year residency at Heritage Springs Memory Care in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. A longtime resident of Catawissa, Janet will be remembered by many alumni of Catawissa and Southern Columbia High Schools as the devoted wife of coach and Athletic Director Charles T. Nesbitt. She also drove the Readmobile and worked as a dedicated classroom aide.

Janet was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on February 23, 1928, to F. Harold and Helen M. Pringle. She graduated from Kingston High School and attended Mary Washington College and Wilkes University.  She worked for a Wilkes-Barre insurance agency and sang in the Wyoming Avenue Christian Church Choir, then married Charles T. Nesbitt on May 7, 1949. The two were married 67 years.

Janet was active in the Catawissa First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as Cub Scout Den Mother, harvested and processed grapes into communion juice. She also attended countless sporting events, took pleasure in needlework, and contributed as a member of the Catawissa Delta Society and Garden Club. She always loved to read.

She also took pleasure in summers with her husband at the New Jersey shore. All summer long, they walked the beach, biked the boards, and danced the night away. She faithfully attended the Ocean City Tabernacle, and always stopped to help sea turtles in need.

We will miss Janet and the love she gave freely. Hugs and kisses dominated her expressions to others in the last years of her life, and her eyes lit up whenever children were within arms’ reach. May her unconditional love inspire us forever.

Janet is survived by husband, Charles, of Riverwoods, Lewisburg; daughter Nancy and husband Robert Martin of Lewisburg; son Tom and wife Donna of East Petersburg; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
