Jeanette Patricia (Yodis) Kosakowski

Jeanette Patricia (Yodis) Kosakowski, 85, of Catawissa, passed away October 9, 2016 peacefully at home with family and loved ones. She was born September 10, 1931 in Mt. Carmel, PA, daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ann (Paskevich) Yodis. Loving wife of the late Edward Kosakowski, mother of Stanley, Edward Jr., Michael and wife Kathy, Albert and wife Laura, and Paul Kosakowski. Grandmother of Christina, Melissa, and Megan. Beloved sister of Stanley, Edward, and Michael Yodis, Terry Gudelunas, Nancy Butkera, Emily Homiak and cousin Jenny Butkiewicz. Great Aunt to all nieces and nephews.
Her passion and love of dancing lead her from Mt. Carmel to the bright lights of New York City in early 1950’s to pursue a dancing career. Her charismatic personality and dynamic talents lead her to competing and winning 1952 Harvest Moonball Polka Dancing Championship at Madison Square Garden in front of 18,000 fans and to television appearances on Ed Sullivan “Toast of Town” show, Arthur Murray Show and to Personal Headliner Appearances at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom and World Famous Broadway Latin Quarter.
In her retirement golden years in the company of her sister Emily and cousin Jenny, she looked forward to regularly attending and dancing to recorded T.V. tapings of the PA Polka Show. On many occasions while shopping in the Catawissa and Bloomsburg area, it wasn’t uncommon for her to be approached by the locals and complimented by them on being entertained by her gracefully dance steps.
At family picnics and gatherings, her genuine passion and love truly shined. Always entertaining, as a compassionate listener and wisdom encourager, she was lovingly embraced as an irreplaceable family treasure. Every encounter had to be commutated with a keepsake personal and group photo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday October 12, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Columbia Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg with Father Patrick Devine officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Holy Cross Cemetery, New Jersey. Family will receive friends Tuesday October 11, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa.
