Joan C. (Hilscher) Rhodes

Joan C. Rhodes, 80, of Alexandria Virginia, passed away on May 24, 2021. She was born May 9, 1941 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Carl V. Hilscher and Myrtle (Ivey) Hilscher. 

She graduated from Bloomsburg High School class of 1959 where she was a majorette in the school band. Joan worked as a teacher's assistant for the Fairfax County Public School system in Virginia for almost 30 years. She was an avid animal lover and was a member of the Humane Society. Joan was very socially active, enjoyed going out with her friends for lunches, attending parties and events, and going to her class reunions. She also loved going to the movie theater and seeing all the new releases. Joan was also very committed to her in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews, attending graduations, weddings and family reunions for almost 58 years until her death.

Joan is survived by two children; Christopher Rhodes and companion Jennifer Kraus, Justine Rhodes and husband Mark Tinker. As well as brother-in-laws, sister in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband Doyle E. Rhodes who passed away in 2015 whom she was married to for 51 years, and brother Carl Hilscher Jr. who passed away in 1968.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday July 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with Reverend Jim Earnest officiating. Interment will follow at Roaring Creek Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service.
