John H. Brokenshire 87, of Catawissa passed away March 28, 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center. He was born June 5, 1927 in Wilburton # 2, Pa, the son of the late Sarah (Lang) and Walter Brokenshire.

John graduated in 1944 from Mt. Carmel High School and then joined the Navy and served in World War II. He worked as a lab tech at Merck for 37.5 years. John was a member of First United Methodist Church in Catawissa where he taught Sunday School for most of his life. He was a member of the American Legion Post 451 in Catawissa, the Catawissa Boat Club, enjoyed doing meals on wheels for many years. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and going to Canada fishing. He loved gardening, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was a huge Southern Columbia High School sports fan.

He is preceded in death by his wife the former, Jane Snyder who passed away in 1996. A brother Walter Brokenshire, and a sister Thelma Krasiewski, a great-grandson Gavin Michael Kopp.

He is survived by three sons: Thomas Brokenshire and wife Judy of Bloomsburg, John C. Brokenshire and wife Suzanne of Numidia, and Jerry Brokenshire and wife Mary of Stillwater. As well as two daughters: Jackie Long and husband Fred of Catawissa, and Jane Durdan and husband William of Catawissa, 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a special friend Pauline Roberts of Catawissa.

Services will be Tuesday March 31, 2015 at 10:00 am First United Methodist Church 228 South St. Catawissa with Pastor Lisa Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park. Friends may call Monday March 30, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Rd. Catawissa and on Tuesday from 9:00 am till 10:00 am at the Church.  Friends unable to attend may send condolences to allenrhornefuneralhome.com. Allen R. Horne Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to First United Methodist Church, 228 South St. Catawissa, Pa 17820.
