John William Mowery Jr., 85, of Bloomsburg and formerly of Catawissa passed away Saturday September 30, 2017 at his residence. He was born October 5, 1931 in Elysburg, a son of the late John and Laura (Dimmick) Mowery.
He graduated from Ralpho Township High School and then entered into the United States Navy from April 5, 1951 until April 10, 1953. John worked for the United States Postal Service from 1968 until 1992. He lived in California and Arizona before moving back to Catawissa. John enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, and square dancing. He was a member of R.C.V. Grange, and The American Legion.
John is survived by his wife the former Judy L. Mensch, whom he married August 3, 1996, three step-children; Andrew Miller of Catawissa, Diane Hubler of Bloomsburg, Debbie Chamberlain and husband Mark of Orangeville, and two sisters; Ruth Rarig, and Eleanor Fahringer.
John was preceded in death by his parents as well as four sisters; Mary Carl, Effie Lindenmuth, Erma Miller, Geraldine Seidel, and three brothers; Adam, Kenneth, and Carl Mowery.
A memorial service will be held Thursday October 5, 2017 at 11:00 am at Kulp United Methodist Church, 1395 Old Reading Road, Catawissa, PA 17820 with Pastor Adam Miller officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the church.
