Joseph B Sobolesky Jr., 88, of Catawissa passed away on Thursday February 15, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Roaring Creek Township, a son of the late Joseph B Sobolesky Sr and Veronica (Kovaleski) Soboesky.
He graduated from Locust Township High School in 1953. He lived and worked on the family farm all his life. He entered the United States Army in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1964. He also worked for TRW in Danville to his retirement in 1997. He was a well-liked "happy-go-lucky”, hard -working person. He enjoyed all kinds of sports. He enjoyed car racing, especially at the Numidia Raceways where he spent many a weekends, well into his mid 80's and was fondly known as "Ole Joe". He also enjoyed playing baseball, golfing, bowling in local leagues and hunting. He enjoyed going on annual fishing trips to Canada with his friend "Uncle Nick" and crew. He was a life-long member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Slabtown. He was a member of the NRA, Bloomsburg Moose and Catawissa Eagles.
Joe is survived by two siblings: Paul Sobolesky, Catawissa and Catherine Mackey (Philip), Catawissa and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Sr. (1967) and Veronica (1996), brother Raymond Sobolesky (2003) and sister Bernice Tennis (1987).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday February 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 304 Slabtown Road, Catawissa with Father Dalessandro officiating. Burial will be at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church.
