Josephine Marie Faux, 97, of Catawissa took her last breath shortly after 2 PM on November 16th at her home. It was in the very next moment when she realized what God inspired Paul to write in 1 Corinthians 2:9, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.” Josephine was standing in the throne room of God looking into the eyes of her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Standing behind her was her husband with many family and friends, who had also put their hope in Jesus’ redeeming work on the cross as payment for their sins.
Born January 4, 1923 in Cleveland Township, Josephine was the daughter of the late Felix and Frances (Korncavage) Kopitsky. Growing up she learned to cook, bake, and can. Josephine won awards for her canning and continued to can until the age of 85. On October 8, 1949 she was married to James Faux of Catawissa and they celebrated 48 years of marriage together before he passed away in 1998. She worked at several blouse manufacturing factories in Catawissa for decades before retiring at the age of 70, but that didn’t slow her down. She kept her own garden till age 87 and drove until she was 90. She exemplified one of her favorite sayings, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.”
Josephine was happiest when she was spending time with her extended family and friends. She could explain the intricacies of relations and relationships and talk with authority about family history. She provided care for many elderly people in her community with visits and food and was a member of St. Columba church in Bloomsburg. She is survived by a son Joseph (Pamela) in Montoursville, and a sister Anna Spishock of LaVerne California. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy Joline, Martha Maciejewski, Elizabeth Rzeplinski, and Frances Azary, and by two brothers, John and Felix Kopitsky.
In keeping with CDC recommendations, a Graveside service will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Hillside Cemetery in Catawissa.
