Josephine M. Hays, 83, of Berwick passed away February 23, 2017 peacefully at her house surrounded by her family. She was born February 9, 1934 in Wickenburg, Colorado, a daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Owens) Covert.
She attended Benton Schools. Josephine loved going to crafts shows and doing crafts. She was an avid reader.
Josephine is survived by seven children; Shirley Hill and husband Richard of Catawissa, Diana DeGreen and husband Merril Jr. of Butler, PA, Laura DeGreen of Danville, Sharon Bowman and husband David of Berwick, Franklin Hays Jr. and wife Carla of Catawissa, Julie Hays of Berwick, and John Henry Hays and wife Michelle of Shamokin. As well as two brothers Arthur Covert of Millville and Kenneth Covert of Connecticut, half sister Lois Honeywell of Lancaster, 22 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband Franklin Hays Sr., who passed away in 1985, son Allen Hays, and two grandsons Justin Tyler DeGreen and Franklin L. Hays III.
Services will be Monday February 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with her daughter Julie Hays officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until time of service.
