Lydia R (Smith) Billig

Lydia R. Billig, 96, of Catawissa, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday March 2, 2022, at Mountain View Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Catawissa, a daughter of the late Harvey A. and Florence (Gotshall) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gerald K. Billig who passed in August 1994, son John K. Billig, on Oct. 21, 2015; brother, John Smith; and two sisters: Jean White and Betty Lynn.

Lydia was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Numidia, Catawissa Eastern Star, and volunteered with the American Red Cross. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lydia is survived by her son, Robert Billig, of Catawissa; two grandchildren: Lori Klinger, James J. Tuzzi III; and two step-grandchildren: Brian Saracino and Michael Saracino; also two great-grandchildren: Brandon John Klinger and Evan John Klinger, and daughter-in-law Donna Billig.

Services will be held Monday, March 7, 2022, at 11 a.m. from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ringtown Mountain Road, Catawissa, with her pastor, the Rev. Gordon Smith, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the church.
