Mary Ellen Mackey, 89, of Elysburg went to be with the Lord May 2, 2016 at Maria Joseph, Danville. She was born April 14, 1927 in Shamokin, a daughter of the late William W. and Mildred (Fleming) Seaman.
She graduated from Bloomsburg High School class of 1945, and then worked for Geisinger Medical Center, Bell Telephone, and Sears. She was an avid reader and loved a good game of scrabble. In her earlier days, she and her family loved camping and made many trips to the seashore and the mountains.
Mary loved her family and loved making her famous chicken and waffles for the whole group of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a talented seamstress and created and sewed both her daughter and daughter-in-law’s wedding gowns.
She was a crafter and could make just about everything-Christmas crafts, jewelry, afghans, and baby blankets. Mary was a leader in the Roaring Creek Home makers, she cooked for the fire company carnivals, and made the bread for the communion at her church, St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Numidia. She also made her special chicken pot pie meals for the Ronald McDonald House in Danville.
Mary is survived by two sons: William S. Mackey and wife Wendy of Sunbury; David L. Mackey and companion Karen of Little River, North Carolina; a daughter, Linda L. Cox and husband Bill of Elysburg; daughter-in-law Karen Mackey of Elysburg; six grandchildren: Tara Barrett, Michael Mackey, Bret Cox, Andrea Shukla, Gail Mackey, Jon Mackey; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by parents as well as her husband Paul L. Mackey whom she married April 12, 1948, and her son Robert L. Mackey who passed away in 2013.
Services will be Thursday May 5, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 27A Ringtown Mountain Road, Numidia, PA 17858, with the Rev. Gordon Smith, interim pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Numidia. Family will receive friends Thursday May 5, 2016 at the church from 10:00 am till time of service.
