Melvena Mae Carl, 82, of Arizona and formally of Fernville, Bloomsburg, and Catawissa, went to be with the Lord December 30, 2015. She was born February 1, 1933 in Bloomsburg, a daughter of the late Melvin L. and Florence (Johnson) Deaner.

She graduated from Bloomsburg High School class of 1951. Melvena enjoyed reading, singing, and was an accomplished mezzo-soprano and soloist for her graduating class and district chorus. She enjoyed babysitting her great niece and nephew, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending her last 7 years with her great-grandchildren Melanie and Dylan. She was a life member of Eastern Star chapter 279 of Bloomsburg. She took pride in keeping her home meticulously clean and tidy. She loved attending the Bloomsburg Fair and also was an original shareholder. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Church where she sang in the choir and was a Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Willing Workers and loved helping at the fair church stand. She was very friendly and kind and loved chatting with her neighbors in Fernville, where she was very involved with the Fernville community. She loved animals and playing with family pets especially Spotty.

Melvena is survived by two daughters; Darla Jean Beltz and husband Nevin, and Kaye Berg and husband James all of Catawissa, six grandchildren; Johnathan Beltz, Brandon Beltz, Tiffany Geiling and husband Jeffrey, Ashley Ralston and husband Joseph, Aaron Berg, and Nathan Berg, and three great-grandchildren; Melanie, Dylan, and Autumn. Also a sister Phyllis Fisher and husband Charles of Rupert, a brother Frank Deaner and wife Kay of Lebanon, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband Fred W. Carl, a sister Jacqueline Deaner, and an aunt Grace Webb.

A memorial service will be held Friday January 8, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. John’s Community Church, 154 N 3rd St, Catawissa, PA 17820, with Pastor Charles Swank officiating. The Eastern Star will be holding a service during the memorial service. Family and friends may send online condolences to allenrhornefuneralhome.com.
