Mildred Ida (Mensch) Miller

Mildred Ida Miller, 94, formerly of Bear Gap Road, Elysburg, PA, went to be with her Lord and her loving husband, Carl, on July 15, 2016.  She had been a resident of Tremont Health and Rehab Center since June 2, 2016, previously spending several months with her daughter, Bev, and family.

Mildred was born on December 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Albert and Lulu (Dimmick) Mensch, of R. D. #1, Elysburg, PA, Columbia County.  She is survived by her daughter, Bev and husband, Ken, of Halifax; son Eugene, wife Donna, of O’Fallon, Ill; grandsons Sean Peirce, wife Gigi, of Mechanicsburg, and Brian Peirce of Halifax; step-grandsons Ken Peirce, Jr., and James McKenzie; step-grand-daughter, Dawn McKenzie; as well as several great-grandchildren.  A sister, Eleanor and husband, Joe Long, Elysburg, and a brother, Clarence and wife, Joan Mensch, of Elysburg.

She is predeceased by a brother, Kermit Mensch; sisters, Lorraine Reeder, Evelyn Helwig and Mable Brophy.

Millie loved cooking, gardening—canning and freezing her produce, sewing, reading, quilting and gifting her special creations for holidays, and spending time with her family.  She always had a smile and pleasant ways about her, giving of her time and talents to her loved ones.  Sean and Brian looked forward to spending time on the farm with Grandma and sampling her baking.  She was very proud of her ancestral farm that had been in her family since 1850.  She cared for her grandmother’s flowers and rose bushes and cherished so many memories that she shared with her son, daughter and grandchildren—the old barn, corncrib and shed housed antiques were passed down through the generations, along with their stories.

There will be a viewing on July 19, 2016, from 10:00 to 11:00 a. m., at Grace Chapel, 126 Airport Road, Overlook, PA.  Services will begin at 11:00, with burial to follow at Trinity Methodist Episcopal Cemetery, Numidia, PA.
