Norma Jean (Elmes) Snyder

Norma Jean Elmes Snyder, age 86, of Catawissa passed away on Jan. 24, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She was born Feb. 13, 1935, at home in Franklin Township, Catawissa, the daughter of the late Walter Clark Elmes and Mae Louise (Artley) Elmes.

She attended Catawissa High School. She was employed by Milco for 32 years, and was a member of the Freewill UMC.

She enjoyed baking and was known for her bread, sticky buns, long johns and raisin-filled cookies. She also enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, and home canning.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Carl G. Snyder. They had seven children: Nancy (Steven) Styer, Carla (Randy) Madara, Susan (Bert) Leiby, Gail (Scott) Fronk, George (Lorraine) Snyder, Janet (Jim) Foulds, Joyce (Joe) Brobst. They have 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Hazel Maurer, Dorothy Sharrow and Margaret Rarig; and three brothers: Warren Elmes, Walter “Jim” Elmes, Charles Elmes.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Roaring Creek Valley UMC, 6 Orchard Drive, Catawissa, PA 17820, or a charity of your choice.

A viewing for friends and family will held Friday, Jan. 28, at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be at the family’s convenience.
