Raymond E. Barnes, 83, of Catawissa passed away Friday January 8, 2016 at Geisinger Medical Center. He was born September 4, 1932 in Catawissa, a son of the late Lewis G. and Anna (Stefanski) Barnes.
He graduated Catawissa High School, and then entered into the Army during the Korea Conflict. Raymond retired from Southern Columbia Area School District as a maintenance supervisor and he was a former Franklin and Catawissa Township Police Chief, and a former Franklin Township Supervisor. He was a member of the Catawissa V.F.W. Post 8306. Besides his family, he enjoyed horseback riding, motorcycles, country music and western movies.
Raymond is survived by his wife the former Deborah Marut whom he married December 28, 1974, and four children; Douglas Barnes and wife Cynthia of Queens, NY, Diane Secor and husband Andrew of Chambersburg, PA, Lewis Barnes and wife Sharon of Catawissa, and Rev. Lisa Barnes of Maple Shade, NJ. Also, three grandchildren; Zachary Allen, Kara Bland, and Joseph McNamee, two great-grandchildren; Kayla and Jake Bland, three brothers; Charles “Mack” Barnes of Hegins, Ralph Barnes of Catawissa, and Alvin Barnes of Dover, Delaware, and three sisters Jean Steward of Berwick, Nancy Long of Catawissa, and Mary Kay Makowski of Bear Gap.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents as well as his first wife Joyce M. (Thomas) Barnes and seven siblings; Louella Kessler, Margaret Girton, Harry Barnes, Alice Barnes, Lewis G. Barnes Jr., Thomas H. Barnes, and Rita Mae Barnes.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday January 12, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with Pastor Chris Dunlap officiating. Burial will follow at Esther Furnace Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday January 11, 2016 from 6:00 till 8:00 pm and Tuesday January 12, 2016 from 10:00 am till time of service at the funeral home.
