Robert P. Gittler

Robert P. Gittler Sr., 67, of Elysburg, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 after a short illness.

Born Dec. 13, 1950, in Doylestown, he was the son of the late Pauline (Renner) and William F. Gittler Sr.

His family moved to Catawissa in 1957 and started what was then known as Catawissa Lumber & Specialty Co.

He graduated in 1968 from Southern Columbia High School and from Drexel University in Philadelphia in 1973 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He was an engineer for various companies in Detroit, Michigan; Seattle, Washington; Paxinos, Pennsylvania; and Moscow, Russia.

He was a former member of the Southern Area School District School Board and served a period as board president. He formerly served as chairman of the Ralpho Township Planning Commission and on the township library board. He was a member of the Elysburg United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Phillipine); a daughter, Catherine (Nicholas) Fisher; a son, Robert P. Gittler Jr., all of Elysburg; two brothers, William (Jane) and John (Roberta); two sisters, Nancy (Glen) Krum; Ann (Frank) Auker; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private Services will be at the discretion of the family.
