Roy J. Bowes

Roy J. Bowes, 74, of Bloomsburg passed away Saturday April 7, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Roy was born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania on March 4, 1944, a son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Hartman) Bowes. He was married to Rosanne Marie Polokowski of Catawissa for 53 years.

When he was 18 years old, Roy enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard where he served for six years. Roy began his career at Kawneer in Bloomsburg and later moved to Johnstown, NY where he helped establish a nationally recognized aluminum anodizing facility.

In 1999 he and his wife returned to the Bloomsburg area to be closer to family. Throughout Roy’s life he embraced the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and trapper.

Roy is survived by his wife Rosanne, daughter Lori McDevitt and her partner Louis Vassil of Doylestown, son Wade M. Bowes and wife Joy of Richmond, VA, and his grandchildren; Erin Marie, Katie Ann, Joshua, Hunter, Margaret, and Elizabeth. As well as his brother Daniel L. Bowes of Bloomsburg, sister Nancy L. Hendricks and husband William of Catawissa, sister-in-law Sandra K. Bowes of Bloomsburg, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother Gary R. Bowes.

Services will be held Wednesday April 11, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with Pastor Lisa Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
