Ruth Charlotte (English) Roberts

Ruth Charlotte (English) Roberts, 90, of Catawissa passed away Wednesday April 6, 2016 at Maria Hall, Danville under Columbia Montour Hospice Care. Ruth was born January 5, 1926 in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Howard Grant and Mildred Irene (Wurst) English.

She graduated from Shamokin High School class of 1944. Ruth worked at the Emenee and Regal Shirt Factories in Catawissa. Ruth also worked in the Cafeteria at Southern Area Schools and in the Dietary Department at the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital. She was a member of the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary. Member of St. John’s UCC (now St. John’s Community Church) since she moved to Catawissa in 1946. She was a member of the Willing Workers Class. She was a faithful worker at the church’s Bloomsburg Fair Stand and the Easter Egg Project. She and her husband were involved in a variety of church related projects through the years. She became a Life Member of the Catawissa O.E.S  Chapter #265 in 2006. In the fall of 2015, she was visited in her home in Catawissa by the new CEO of Geisinger Health Systems, David Feinberg, which was arranged through the Columbia Montour Hospice. Ruth loved collecting Lighthouses.

She met her future husband, William B. Roberts, Catawissa, while roller skating at Knoebel’s Grove. They married February 23, 1946, in the Methodist Church, Elysburg, Pa. Moved to Catawissa after their marriage. William died January 4, 2007 after 61 years of marriage. She and her husband, Bill, worked for 5 years at Knoebel’s Grove in the catering department making hamburgers for the various catering functions.

Ruth is survived by a son, Gary, Plano, Texas and a brother-in-law, Luther Baskin, Paxinos, Pa. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Robert, Milton, Pa. in 1996 and sister, Marian Baskin, Paxinos, Pa. in 2000.

Services will be Tuesday April 12, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa, PA, 17820 with Pastor Charles Swank officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday April 11, 2016 from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
