Sara Caroline (Beaver) Hoffner

Sara Caroline Hoffner, 94, daughter of former State Representative H. Clayton Beaver and Effie Helwig Beaver, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2019 at the Sarah Todd Memorial Nursing Home in Carlisle, PA.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years J. William Hoffner, brother Edward Beaver, and sister Mary Cherrington. She is survived by sons William, and partner Susan Varner of Bloomsburg, Ned and wife Anne of Camp Hill; grandson Ross Hoffner and wife Laura of Harrisburg, granddaughter Kelly Gates and husband Drew of Fayetteville; great-grandchildren Mitchell and Owen Hoffner. She is also survived by a sister Jane Hoffner of Montgomery and half-sister Fannie Huber of Catawissa.

Sarah was born February 25, 1925 and grew up on the family farm in Roaring Creek Township. She is a graduate of Locust Township High School. She and her sisters were instrumental in the operation of the family farm while their brother Edward served in the military during WWII. During her married years she was employed in several positions, most notably the Regal Shirt Factory, Bloomsburg Hospital Housekeeping Department and Weis Markets, besides raising her sons.

Most recently she was a resident at Vintage Knolls Assisted Living in Danville before being hospitalized and then admitted to Sarah Todd.

Sara was a devoted caregiver for family members in need and will be remembered for her exceptional work ethic and love of family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sarah Todd who provided her with excellent care during her brief stay.

Services will be held on Monday December 16, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with the Rev. Mary Medkeff-Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Elan Memorial Park, 5595 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
