Sarah (Sally) Abraczinskas Obituary

Sarah Ann (Sally) Abraczinskas, 90, New Smyrna Beach, FL passed away peacefully on May 23, 2024.

She was born September 16, 1933, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Peter Scovern and Catherine (Rumberger) Scovern. Sally graduated from from Coal Township High School in 1951. In 1953, she married Anthony (Junior) Abraczinskas Jr. They celebrated 45 years of marriage until his passing on August 27, 1998. Sally was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Slabtown.

In her early years Sally worked at the F.W. Woolworth Co. and then as an operator at the Bell Telephone Company. After she married, Sally worked along side her husband Junior building the family farming and Christmas Tree Business doing various jobs where she especially enjoyed going to farmer’s market. Over time, she perfected her greatest work—making the most delicious fruit pies which won her local fame and many friends. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and enjoyed manning the ticket station at the yearly picnic. After she raised her children, she enjoyed winters in New Smyrna Beach with her husband, Junior, and then with her sisters Mabel and Toni. Her other favorite activities included a good bingo game, going to casinos and reading mystery books. Sally took great pride in planting colorful summer flowers around her farm house. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for her grand and great grandchildren. She also spent many enjoyable years attending her granddaughters’ sporting events cheering them on and making her peanut butter fudge for the teams. She had an active life full of generosity, overflowing with laughter, and rich in love.

She will be missed by the many who loved her. Sally is survived by a daughter Catherine Schopf, and two sons, Peter (Nancy) Abraczinskas and Anthony (Sharon) Abraczinskas. Granddaughters Sarah (Robert) DiTommaso, Jennifer (David) Abraczinskas, Rebecca (Bryan) Beaverson, Bethany (Ryan) Harsche, Elizabeth (Casey) Schopf , Emily (Nagy) Ahmed, Melissa Boik, Julie Abraczinskas and Gina Abraczinskas. Great grandchildren Addison, Morgan and Maggie Beaverson, Alex, Luca and Nico DiTommaso, Jackson, Leo, Cecilia and Alessandra DiGiacomo, Duke and Hunter Harsche, Noah Ahmed, Lucas and Mason Boik. A sister, Mabel Lindemuth, brother-in-law Eugene, sister-in-law Pat Abraczinskas, and sister-in-law Marian Abraczinskas

In addition to her husband, Anthony, and parents she is preceded in death by a son at birth, sister, Antoinette Murphy, brother-in-law Glenn Murphy, brother-in-law William Andrulevich, brother-in-law Earl Lindemuth, brother-in-law Donald Abraczinskas, sister in-law Janette Abraczinskas, brother-in-law Jerome Abraczinskas and sister-in-law Maryann Abraczinskas

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 31, 2024, at 12:30 pm, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 304 Slabtown Road, Catawissa with Father Dennis Dalessandro officiating. Burial will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will receive friends Friday from 10:00 am until noon at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 193 McIntyre Road Catawissa.

In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions in Sally’s name may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Slabtown PA
