Thomas Joseph Benedict, 72, of Elybsurg passed away Sunday June 28, 2020 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born March 2, 1948 in Mahanoy City, PA, son of the late Joseph and Anna (Hillebush) Benedict.
He graduated from Mahanoy City High School and then entered the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Tom was a heavy equipment operator for many years, owning his own business. He could operate any equipment with ease and loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed going to the Outer Banks every year with his family, and riding his Harley. He was a member of Valley Chemical Fire Co., and was a Forrest Fire Warden.
Thomas is survived by three children; Sherry Anderson husband Jason of Elybsurg, Cathleen Buckley of New Castle, PA, Thomas Benedict II. wife Michelle of Numidia, and six grandchildren; Sara, Sierra, Chevey, Trinity, Sydnee, and Slade. As well as two brothers Jim Benedict wife Pat of Brick, NJ, Robert Benedict wife Jeanne of Newport, NC, two sisters Catherine Mellon of Jersey, Margaret Leigh of Point Pleasant, NJ, and cousin Alberta Stine, with whom he lived with.
Services will be Friday July 3, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa with Rev. Gordon Smith officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 9:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
