Verna Irene Honaberger, 96, of Elysburg passed away January 22, 2017 at her residence. She was born October 4, 1920 in Millgrove, a daughter of the late David and Edna (Shoup) Boadman.
She attended school at Beaver Meadow School and graduated from Locust Township High School. She retired from farming in 1966. After retirement her and her husband joined the Peace Corps, serving in India, Central America and Puerto Rico, for about eight years.
Mrs. Honaberger was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Elysburg where she served on church council, Eastern Star, Girl Scout Leader, and Cub Den Leader.
Vera enjoyed making numerous quilts for her family, and loved to bake and make cookies.
Verna is survived by son, Daniel D. Honaberger and wife Jean, Elysburg, daughter, Joan Britch, Elysburg; five grandchildren; David Honaberger, Steven Britch and wife Susan, Trudy Sieg and husband Mark, Chris Britch and wife Tresa, and Beth Wolfe and husband Rick, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband George H. Honaberger, whom passed away March 23, 1986, son-in-law Stanley Britch who passed away January 16, 2017, brother Calvin Boadman, and three sisters; Elsie Derr, Cora Beltz, and Grace Beaver.
