Violet Emma Stewart, 90, of Numidia Pa., went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.
Violet was born January 1, 1926 in Wilburton, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Rachel (Bartol) Yeich.
She graduated from Locust Township High School, class of 1943. She attended Crozer Hospital School of Nursing in Chester, Pa., as a member of the Army Cadet Corp.
Violet retired in 1991 from the Bloomsburg Hospital after thirty years of nursing service. She had received multiple awards and certificates of recognition for her exemplary nursing care. She founded the Bloomsburg Hospital Ostomy Club. She was also a founding member of the Roaring Creek Valley Quick Response Squad.
She was a devoted member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church since 1942, where she was known for her various fund raising activities; annual Spaghetti supper, Chicken BBQ dinners and her Ham & Bean soup.
Violet loved her life on the farm where she enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables and making her homemade ketchup and relishes. Her love and selflessness will always be remembered by her family and those who knew her. She was always focused on her family. She enjoyed trips to Florida, Hawaii and Alaska. During a recent trip to Kentucky she found a whole new branch of the Bartol family and new cousins.
She loved going to the Bloomsburg Fair, cooking large pots of vegetable soup and making everyone’s favorite food as well as large dinners for family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Stewart in 1985 and a grandchild.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie E. Stewart of Higganum, Ct. and Rachel Scholvin of Shamokin and two sons, Ronnie E. Stewart and Dennis J. Stewart both of Catawissa and seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Services will be Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 12:00 pm, from the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services 193 McIntyre Rd. Catawissa Pa. 17820. Burial will follow immediately at Esther Furnace Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 11:00 am till time of service.
